Kevin Costner and his wife of over 19 years, Jennifer, are divorcing. The revelation came as a surprise to Costner, who is presently working on his upcoming western film Horizon.
People close to the marriage said Christine Baumgartner, the one who filed for divorce, allegedly informed her husband that if he continued to be absent from home due to work, she would leave him.
Costner’s absence was apparently ‘painful’ for Baumgartner, who wanted him to spend more time at home with his family in Santa Barbara.
“Kevin isn’t around much during filming. “His absence has been extremely difficult for her,” a source reportedly stated. Another source stated that while Costner was aware that his wife was unhappy in their marriage, her filing for divorce came as a surprise to him.
“Christine doesn’t want him to throw himself into another project. He has been obsessed with filming Horizon since last year. She wasn’t happy about it,” a source reported.
“At times, his career has taken precedence over his home life,” another source added.
“All of this success and excitement over the new project probably took his attention away from his family more than he realized. Since it didn’t look like that would change and likely could get worse, it caused tension at home,” the source added.
The pair began dating in 2000 and married four years later, having three children together, all of whom are still young. Costner’s marriage is not his first. He previously married his college love, Cindy Silva. Silva funded his desire to become a star by holding numerous jobs, including that of Snow White in Disneyland, during his early days as an actor. However, as his career flourished, she became concerned about him filming steamy sequences with female coworkers. There were also reports of supposed infidelity, and the couple eventually separated.
It was a horrible divorce that caused one of the most famous celebrities to be lonely for a long time.
Until he met Baumgartner, that is. The couple first dated and then split because Costner did not want any more children, to which the former model responded, “I’m going to wait for you, but not for long.” Come back to me when you’ve come to your senses,'” and he did.
“It is with great sadness that circumstances beyond Mr. Costner’s control have transpired, resulting in Mr. Costner having to participate in a dissolution of marriage action,” a spokeswoman for the actor stated.
“We ask that his, Christine’s, and their children’s privacy be respected as they navigate this difficult time,” the statement went on to say.
Reports are that Baumgartner has not filed for spousal support. Costner’s response has been filed by Laura Wasser. “Spousal support to be payable to petitioner pursuant to the terms of the parties’ Premarital Agreement,” Wasser added, indicating that there is a pre-nuptial agreement between both parties.
