Tens of thousands of individuals are killed in alcohol-related accidents each year, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which reported 37,461 fatalities in 2016. During the summer of 2017, one drunk Wisconsin resident prudently chose to walk home rather than risk an accident. The only problem was that the resident had driven to the drinking establishment — and risked incurring a parking charge by keeping their car overnight in the metered area.
And now comes the wonderful part of the story: this person chose to appeal to the parking officer’s better nature, and it succeeded! Officer Jim Hellrod works for the Wausau Police Department as a parking enforcement officer. In June, he was preparing to write a parking ticket when he found a message hidden beneath a windshield wiper.
Following word of the kindhearted cop’s actions spreading, another officer was approached for a remark, as well as whether this was a circumstance that the department had before encountered. No, he said, it was pretty unusual — but, given the circumstances, he understood the driver’s decision to walk instead of drive.
They “realized it may not have been a safe choice and risked a citation rather than risk their own safety,” according to Lt. Cord Buckner. Cat owners understand that receiving love and attention from their cats is a rare gift. Cats are known to be more reserved than dogs, which adds to their allure. They may be fussy about who they love, but being loved by a feline partner is immensely fulfilling.
However, it appears that not everyone shares these sentiments. Consider Jerry, a black and white cat who was surrendered to a shelter due to being “too affectionate.”What exactly do you mean? When the Humane Society of Broward County in Florida realized why this adorable cat had ended up in their care, they were taken aback.”We were definitely surprised to have a cat surrendered due to being too affectionate,” Susan Leonti, the shelter’s digital marketing specialist, said.
“The majority of our adopters are looking for affectionate cats!” There is no such thing as an overly affectionate cat in our opinion.”Jerry’s former boss claimed that he welcomed her at the entrance and “talked too much.” He rubbed his hands against her legs and requested petting, which annoyed her. Can you imagine? The shelter recognized a particular feline and developed a sign explaining why he was there, which they uploaded on TikTok.
Potential adopters were informed that, while he is exceedingly sociable, he is also wary of all the new people in the shelter. Many individuals noticed the post the next morning and wanted to adopt Jerry. The individuals that adopted him were the first in line and eager to absorb all of his affection! “They saw Jerry’s video on TikTok and ran to the shelter first thing in the morning to adopt him,” she said.
“They were the first in a long line of people who had seen Jerry’s video and wanted to adopt him that morning.” Jerry’s new family was so generous that after adopting him, they paid the adoption fees for Aramis, Porthos, and Athos, a bonded trio of cat brothers who have been with us since Thanksgiving. “The trio is still available for adoption.”We’re so thrilled the shelter was able to match this sweet fur baby with the perfect home. These folks, hopefully, are better prepared to deal with all of that unfettered love and affection!
