Two young children ice-skated to Leonard Cohen’s ‘Hallelujah,’ and it was one of the most beautiful performances I’ve ever seen. Evelina Pokrasnetyeva and Ilya Makarov were their names.
Ilya was ten years old, and Evelina was eight, yet they skated like they were born on the rink. They performed on the Russian television show “Ice Age Kids.”
They skated onto the ice holding hands and smiled as a lovely pair. When they arrived at their destination, they laid down on their backs and stared up.
They began to move when “Hallelujah” began to play. They slowly climbed to their knees and then rose up on their skates when they were ready. Their act appeared to be about young people falling in love.
Lya and Evelina exchanged glances as they went over the ice with ease. They twirled and swung their arms as they went apart and then back together.
He scooped her up and whirled her around on the ice. This approach required a great deal of balance and confidence. She had never had any reservations about him, and neither did he.
Their performance was fantastic and heartfelt. They always finish with their backs on the ice and their gaze staring up.
